INFORMATION ON REQUIREMENT FOR REGISTRATION

 

A. ARTICLES

1. Qualification Requirements for Registration as Articled Pupils & Qualified Persons

  • ( i )  For a non-graduate candidate, he must produce evidence that he has passed or obtained the following qualifications :- 

    a.   A full Higher School Certificate / Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran or its equivalent with a pass at principal level in Mathematics;

 OR

    b.  an exempting examination accepted by the Board provided that the examination passed by the  candidate shall include a pass in Mathematics;

OR

c.  a diploma in Land Surveying from the Technical College , Universiti Teknologi Malaysia,        Institut  Teknologi MARA or any of the recognised technical institutions acceptable to  the Board.
  • ( ii)  For a qualified person, he must produce evidence that he has passed or obtained the  following  qualifications: -  a.  a first degree in land surveying recognised by the Board;

     OR

          b. a pass in the professional examination in land surveying from the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia.

  • ( iii)  The above provisions are subject to review from time to time

2. Citizenship Requirements for Registration as Articled Pupils & Qualified Persons. A candidate for registration as an articled pupil and qualified person must produce evidence that he is a  citizen  of Malaysia before his application can be considered.

3. Sponsorship of Articled Pupil and Qualified Person. A Licensed land surveyor must have been registered for more than 5 years with the    Board before he can  take in any articled pupil or qualified person under articles.

 

B. REGISTRATION

1. No person shall be registered as a land surveyor until he has undergone a period of     satisfactory  pupilage under articles. 2. A person is eligible for registration as a land surveyor with the Board if he    possesses either:-   a) a certificate of competency issued by the Board;      OR   b) a pass in the Professional Examinations recognised by the Board plus the       additional  requirements  below where deemed necessary by the Board. 3. The additional requirements for those who apply for registration under paragraph     2(b)  above are  as follows:-  a) a minimum period of 2 years practical experience in Semenanjung Malaysia      acceptable to the  Board. Of this period, not less than 9 months shall be on actual      title survey work and not less than 9 months on actual computations and plan      drawing. b) a pass in the written examination in the subject "Laws and Regulations" and where      necessary  the "Land Tenure" paper.c) a pass in the Board's Oral and Practical Examination on any aspect of cadastral,     engineering  and topographical surveying (including the handling and adjustment     of equipment). Candidates  shall submit to the Board their original or certified field     notes, relevant calculations and plans drawn therefrom of :-

( i ) a second class survey of not less than 10 hectares which may comprise       one or  more lots, two of the boundaries of which shall coincide with       and be reinstated from previous surveys. The survey shall include the      laying  out  of a road reserve  with parallel sides, surveyed either as      part  of the 10 hectares  or surveyed separately    AND

( ii ) a survey of a town lot with buildings on or near the boundaries.

NoteA Certificate of Competency is only issued by the Board to those who were originally registered as " Articled Pupil " and completed their 4 years articleship successfully. Since they have satisfied the Board that they have done a satisfactory field and office training during their period of articleship and have been credited with a pass in all subjects prescribed by the regulations, the requirements at para 3 above do not apply to them.

 

C. EXAMINATIONS

1. The Board will conduct jointly with the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia all required examinations.2. Articled pupils and qualified persons are required to be admitted as members,graduate members, probationers or students of the Institution of Surveyors,     Malaysia and to sit for  the Institution's professional examinations.3. Qualified persons with a good honour's degree in land surveying may be     exempted from the  written paper in " Land Tenure "4. The Board recognises the professional examination in land surveying of the     Institution of   Surveyors, Malaysia as equivalent to the Board 's professional     examinations.5. The articled pupils must pass the full examination by the Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia  first before appearing for the Oral and Practical examination conducted by the Board.
